In a thrilling showdown at Yangon’s Thuwunna Stadium on Wednesday, July 2, Bangladesh women’s football team claimed a historic 2-1 victory over powerhouse Myanmar in their second match of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers.
It was Rituparna Chakma who rose to the occasion, scoring twice to seal the victory for the red-and-green warriors. The match kicked off with an early scare as Myanmar launched a sharp attack in the opening minute, narrowly missing the target. But Bangladesh responded with confidence, gradually gaining control of the game through smart pressing and quick counterattacks.
The breakthrough came in the 19th minute when Rituparna’s powerful strike found the back of the net, giving Bangladesh the lead. She struck again in the 72nd minute doubling the scoreline and sparking celebrations among fans and teammates alike.

Although Myanmar managed to pull one back in the dying moments of the game, it was too little, too late.
This landmark win puts Bangladesh within touching distance of qualifying for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup for the very first time. If they win or even draw against Turkmenistan in their final match, Monica, Tohura, and the rest of the squad will carve their names into footballing history.
Earlier, in their opening match, Bangladesh thrashed Bahrain with a commanding 7-0 scoreline, signaling their determination and growing dominance in South Asian women’s football.
