British American Tobacco (BAT) Bangladesh has announced that it will shut down its Dhaka factory starting from 1 July 2025.
Official Office to Be Relocated
In a notice to the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), BAT Bangladesh also said it will move its registered office from Mohakhali to Dehora, Dhamsona, Balibhadra Bazar in Ashulia.
The decision comes after the Supreme Court of Bangladesh rejected the company’s appeal to extend the lease for its factory and office premises located in Mohakhali DOHS. As a result, BAT Bangladesh is required to leave the property.

Supreme Court Upholds High Court Ruling
On 29 May, the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed dismissed BAT Bangladesh’s appeal, supporting an earlier High Court ruling. The dispute was over a lease disagreement with the Dhaka Cantonment Board.
Lease Was Denied in 2023
Earlier, on 12 December 2023, the High Court had dismissed a writ petition filed by BAT Bangladesh. The company had challenged the board’s decision to not renew the lease of the Mohakhali property.
BAT Bangladesh is one of the top multinational tobacco companies operating in the country.
