Elderly Beggar “Sale Pagli” Passes Away in Sirajganj

An elderly woman named Saleha Begum (65), who gained attention after saving three sacks of money from begging, has passed away. She was widely known among locals as “Sale Pagli.” Saleha died on Friday evening (October 24) while receiving treatment at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura.

Buried in Sirajganj After Funeral

Her funeral (janaza) took place on Saturday morning (October 25), after which she was buried at the Kandapara graveyard in Sirajganj town.

Suffered from Liver Cancer

According to local sources, Saleha was first admitted to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital due to illness. Later, she was transferred to North Bengal Medical College and then to Bogura’s Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, where doctors diagnosed her with liver cancer.

Local Councillor Confirms Death

Former councillor of Ward No. 1 of Sirajganj Municipality, Md. Shahriar Shipu, confirmed the news.

“সালে পাগলী দীর্ঘদিন ধরেই অসুস্থ ছিলেন। গতকাল মারা গেছেন, আজ জানাজা শেষে দাফন করা হয়েছে। তার জমানো টাকা ইসলামি শরিয়ত মোতাবেক ভাগ করা হবে,”

Translation: “Sale Pagli had been ill for a long time. She passed away yesterday and was buried today after the funeral. Her saved money will be distributed according to Islamic law.”

Three Sacks of Money Recovered Earlier

Earlier, residents of Mashumpur Natunpara in Sirajganj Sadar Upazila found three sacks of money inside Saleha Begum’s house over a two-day period. The usable amount was calculated to be Tk 1,74,079.
