On Tuesday (18 February), ambassador to Bangladesh Rinchen Kuentsyl said in a statement, Bhutan is eager to collaborate with Bangladesh in joint venture investments to tap into the hydropower potential of the Himalayan kingdom.
With Bangladesh, Bhutan has also signed a contract with the submarine cable company to get an alternative internet connection from Dhaka, he said. The ambassador made a farewell call to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka and discussed the situation of mutual interest. In Dhaka, while his four-year-long stay, the relationship between two countries will be strengthened, with both countries starting new avenues to enhance connection. The work on the unique Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for Bhutanese investors in the northern district of Kurigram was progressing fast, and it would generate jobs for thousands of people, said Ambassador Kurntsyl. He said, “We look forward to operationalizing it very soon”. Also said Bhutanese investors would produce goods for Bhutan and international markets.
Throughout the meeting, they conversed about issues of mutual interest, including rising educational ties between South Asian nations. Yunus thanked the ambassador for his efforts to bring the two countries closer and for being a “good friend” of Bangladesh.
