Biman Bangladesh Airlines has achieved an unprecedented milestone, recording Tk908 crore in sales in November 2024—the highest monthly sales in its history, excluding Hajj operations. This remarkable growth reflects the success of strategic reforms aimed at combating ticket black-marketing, enhancing accessibility, and optimizing revenue channels. The airline’s financial performance has been bolstered by Hajj operations, which contributed Tk823 crore to its annual revenue.
Biman also reported a net profit of Tk282 crore by June 2024, cementing its status as a key player in Bangladesh’s aviation industry with a 22% market share. According to an internal report, sales through the Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP) channel surged by 79% in six months, reaching Tk715 crore in November. Online sales grew by 40%, demonstrating the airline’s growing focus on digital engagement. Counter sales also increased modestly, while the cargo segment experienced some fluctuations but maintained a strong contribution overall.
Passenger numbers reached 3.4 million in the 2023-24 fiscal year, up from 3.3 million the previous year, showcasing Biman’s expanding reach. However, challenges persist on underperforming routes like Narita and Manchester, prompting the airline to review its operations for further efficiency. “Our profitability is a result of efficient management and strategic initiatives,” said a senior official. Biman Managing Director and CEO Dr. Md Shafiqur Rahman expressed optimism about the airline’s future, emphasizing plans to strengthen high-performing routes and expand services. Biman’s recent accomplishments mark a turning point, reflecting a renewed focus on stability, strategic growth, and a dedication to delivering exceptional service.
