A BNP leader has been arrested in Cumilla with a foreign-made pistol. The arrest was made by the army early Friday morning (July 4) from the Nazir Mosque Road area in Chanpur, under Cumilla Adarsha Sadar Upazila.
The arrested BNP leader is Khokon Mia (55), is a resident of Chanpur village in Panthupi Union and serves as the General Secretary of the local unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
According to a press release from the army camp in Cumilla Adarsha Sadar Upazila, a special team conducted a raid in the area early in the morning.

During the operation, they detained one person with an illegal 7.65 mm pistol and recovered an empty magazine. Another man, identified as Alam (50), managed to flee the scene.
The arrested BNP leader was handed over to Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station along with the weapon. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station, Mohinul Islam, confirmed that legal action is being prepared against Khokon Mia.
