BNP Leader Comments on BCB Election
BNP’s Foreign Affairs Committee Special Assistant Engineer Ishraque Hossain has spoken out on the ongoing discussions and controversies surrounding the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election.
He posted on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday (1 October):
“গত কয়েকদিন বিসিবি নির্বাচন নিয়ে অনেক কিছু বলার থাকলেও, নির্বাচনকে আরও প্রভাবিত না করার জন্য কোনো পাবলিক প্ল্যাটফর্মে কিছু লিখিনি। গণমাধ্যম যোগাযোগ করার চেষ্টা করলেও আমি কৌশলী ভূমিকায় ছিলাম। আজকে অল্প কয়েকটি কথা বলবো, কারণ ভিতরের-বাইরের সবকিছু খুলে বললে অনেকের পরনের প্যান্ট খুলে যাওয়ার মতো পরিস্থিতি হতে পারে।”
Translation: “Although there has been a lot to say about the BCB election in recent days, I did not write anything on public platforms to avoid influencing the election further. Even though I tried to communicate with the media, I remained strategic. Today I will say a few things because revealing everything could embarrass many people.”

BNP Families’ Involvement in Cricket
Ishraque highlighted that some senior BNP leaders’ children wanted to join the cricket board to serve the nation.
“বিএনপির জ্যেষ্ঠ কয়েকজন নেতার ছেলেরা ক্রিকেট বোর্ডে আসতে চেয়েছিলেন দেশ ও জাতিকে কিছু দেওয়ার উদ্দেশ্যে। আমাদের সকলের ভালোবাসা ও গৌরবের জায়গা ক্রিকেট। কিছু লোক এমনভাবে মন্তব্য করলো, যেন রাজনীতিবিদ অথবা তাদের পরিবারের সদস্যদের ক্রীড়া সংগঠক হওয়া হারাম। এ যেন বিশাল কোনো কেলেঙ্কারি-দুর্নীতি-আইনের লঙ্ঘন।”
Translation: “A few senior BNP leaders’ sons wanted to join the cricket board to contribute to the country and nation. Cricket is a place of love and pride for all of us. Some people commented as if it is forbidden for politicians or their family members to be sports organizers. This is treated like a huge scandal, corruption, or law violation.”
He added that BNP candidates are qualified, educated, cricket-loving, and capable.
Alleged Interference by “Kings Party” and Advisors
Ishraque also criticized alleged manipulation by the current advisors and the so-called “Kings Party”:
“বর্তমানে যাদেরকে আমরা কিংস পার্টি বলি, তাদের ইন্ধনে একজন উপদেষ্টার সরাসরি হস্তক্ষেপের মাধ্যমে বিভিন্ন জেলায় তাদের দলের নির্বাচিত কাউন্সিলর নিয়োগ দেওয়া হয়েছে। এজন্য ডিসিদের অকথ্য ভাষায় হুমকিও প্রদান করেছেন উপদেষ্টা।”
Translation: “Currently, under the influence of what we call the Kings Party, an advisor has directly intervened to appoint their party’s elected councillors in various districts. The advisor even threatened DCs in harsh language for this.”

He warned that these manoeuvres are meant to dominate the cricket board:
“কতটুকু সফল হবে এবং কতটুকু টিকে থাকবে- সবকিছু মাসের মধ্যে দেখা যাবে। এই নাটকের দ্বিতীয় পর্ব আসতে পারে আগামী বছর।”
Translation: “How successful this will be and how long it will last will be seen in months. The second part of this drama may come next year.”
Political Bias Against BNP Families
Ishraque mentioned that BNP family members have faced discrimination in jobs and businesses for 17 years:
“একটাই দোষ ছিল—বিএনপির পরিবার হওয়া। এখন এই সরকারের এক বা একাধিক উপদেষ্টা ওই হাসিনার কথার হুবহু কপি করছে। তারা বলে: ‘বিএনপি লোকজন বিসিবিতে কী করে?’ বা ‘ক্রীড়াঙ্গনে বিএনপির কী কাজ?’ মহান আল্লাহ তায়ালা চাইলে বিসিবিতে ওনারা কী করেন এবং ওনাদের কাজ কি, তা নিকট ভবিষ্যতে দেখা যাবে।”
Translation: “The only fault was being a BNP family member. Now one or more advisors of this government are copying Hasina’s words. They say: ‘What is BNP doing in BCB?’ or ‘What is BNP’s role in sports?’ If Allah wills, their work in BCB will be seen in the near future.”
