Erica Pereira da Silva Vicente, 43, admitted to the killing in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Brazilian Mother told the court that she acted out of a desperate need to save her young daughter. Erica became suspicious after seeing disturbing text messages the man had sent to the girl. When she rushed to her daughter’s room, she found Everton attempting to commit the assault. Regarding her motivation, she stated: She said she was just trying to protect her 11-year-old daughter from being raped.

The Prosecutor’s Argument
While Brazilian Mother claimed she acted in a “blind rage,” prosecutors argued the killing was planned. They claimed Erica spiked Everton’s drink with Klonopin (a sedative) to knock him out. According to the evidence, she then stabbed and clubbed him while he was unconscious.
The prosecution argued that the violence used showed: Not in blind rage but with cold premeditation.
The Crime Scene and Investigation
The court heard that after the killing, a teenager helped Erica move the body to a wasteland in Belo Horizonte. There, she cut off the man’s genitals and set the body on fire. Police eventually found Erica after following a trail of blood back to her apartment. When confronted, she immediately handed over the knife and confessed to the police.
The Final Verdict
Despite the brutal details of the case, the jury sided with the mother. On Tuesday, after only one day of testimony, she was acquitted of all charges. The judge ruled that she was cleared of any wrongdoing, acknowledging that her actions were a direct response to the threat against her child.
