New Era in Telecom Services
Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) is bringing a new era in the telecom sector by launching triple-play and quad-play services. For the first time, customers will be able to enjoy voice calls, internet, smartphones, and OTT entertainment together.
The announcement was shared on Facebook on September 27 by Fayez Ahmad Taiyeb, the Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor for Post, Telecommunications, and ICT Ministry.
MVNO SIM and IP Phone App
BTCL’s new initiative includes an MVNO-based SIM card and an IP phone app called “BTCL Alap.” Customers will get unlimited voice calls under certain conditions. This became possible after the new telecom licensing policy removed barriers for MVNO services.
Unlimited Internet and OTT Platforms
Another part of the plan is “BTCL Jibon”, which will provide unlimited internet. For entertainment, BTCL will connect with OTT platforms like Bongo, Chorki, and Hoichoi. Later, they plan to add Netflix and Amazon Prime. BTCL hopes this will also help reduce piracy in the OTT market.

Affordable Smartphones for All
To make devices more accessible, BTCL will offer smartphones through instalments starting at Tk 500 per month in a one-year package, with a small initial deposit. This initiative will make it easier for low-income and lower-middle-class families to buy smartphones. BTCL plans to implement this with local manufacturers.
Statement from Fayez Ahmad Taiyeb
Fayez Ahmad Taiyeb explained the goal behind the new services:
“ডিভাইস, ভয়েস, ডেটা এবং এন্টারটেইনমেন্ট—চারটি খাতে একসঙ্গে সেবা নিশ্চিত করে আমরা চাই মানুষের যোগাযোগ ও বিনোদনের সীমাবদ্ধতা দূর করতে। লিমিটেড ভয়েস, লিমিটেড ডেটা, লিমিটেড কনটেন্ট এবং ডিভাইস সীমাবদ্ধতার অচলায়তন ভাঙতে বিটিসিএল নতুন পদক্ষেপ নিয়েছে।”
Translation: “By ensuring services in devices, voice, data, and entertainment together, we want to remove the limits in communication and entertainment. BTCL has taken new steps to break the barriers of limited voice, data, content, and device access.”

Taiyeb also mentioned that BTCL will make a detailed announcement in October regarding these services.
