BTRC Cuts Internet Imports from India to 50% to Reduce Dependence

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) established a new parameter for internet bandwidth imports from India at 50% of the existing domestic usage totaling 6,500 Gbps. Reducing reliance on a single supply is one reason behind this decision as well as establishing a secure internet connection for the nation.

The present bandwidth consumption by Bangladesh stands at 6,500 Gbps. BTRC aims to decrease India internet bandwidth imports to 30% beyond the current time period. Bangladesh will import its internet bandwidth primarily through submarine cables (60%) and through satellite connections (10%).

The population expects this transformation will establish a dependable internet system for Bangladesh that depends on multiple providers beyond one specific country. This development would enhance network security and introduce multiple options that could result in improved internet quality available at cheaper rates for the public.
