On the occasion of Victory Day, Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 6:00 PM, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus addressed the nation, sharing his reflections on Bangladesh’s journey to independence and its present challenges.
He said,
“মুক্তিযুদ্ধে বিজয়ের মধ্য দিয়ে স্বাধীনতার যে নতুন সূর্য উদিত হয়েছিল, বিগত বছরগুলোতে তা স্বৈরাচার ও ফ্যাসিবাদে ম্লান হয়েছে। জুলাই গণঅভ্যুত্থানের মধ্য দিয়ে আমরা আবারও একটি বৈষম্যহীন, দুর্নীতিমুক্ত, স্বাধীন ও সার্বভৌম গণতান্ত্রিক রাষ্ট্রব্যবস্থা প্রতিষ্ঠার সুযোগ পেয়েছি।”
Translation: “Through the victory in the Liberation War, a new sun of independence had risen, but over the past years, it has dimmed under tyranny and fascism. Through the July people’s uprising, we have once again received the opportunity to establish an equal, corruption-free, independent, and sovereign democratic state system.”
Dr. Yunus extended greetings to all Bangladeshis on this historic day and said:
“আজ বাংলাদেশের ইতিহাসের এক অবিস্মরণীয় গৌরবময় দিন। ১৯৭১ সালে ৯ মাসের রক্তক্ষয়ী মুক্তিযুদ্ধ শেষে এই দিনে আমরা পাই কাঙ্ক্ষিত বিজয়ের স্বাদ। অনেক ত্যাগ-তিতিক্ষা আর লাখো শহিদের রক্তের বিনিময়ে পাই একটি স্বাধীন দেশ ও লাল-সবুজের পতাকা।”

Translation: “Today is an unforgettable and glorious day in the history of Bangladesh. After the nine-month bloody Liberation War in 1971, we taste the long-cherished victory on this day. Through immense sacrifices and the blood of millions of martyrs, we have gained an independent country and the red-and-green flag.”
He honored the bravery and sacrifices of freedom fighters and martyrs who struggled for independence throughout history. He emphasized that their contributions inspire courage to stand against injustice and show the way to freedom amidst all crises and struggles.
Dr. Yunus further remarked:
“অন্তর্বর্তীকালীন সরকার উন্নত ও সুশাসিত বাংলাদেশের শক্তিশালী ভিত গড়ে তুলতে যে বিস্তৃত সংস্কার কর্মসূচি গ্রহণ করেছে, দেশের আপামর জনগণের সম্মিলিত অংশগ্রহণের মধ্য দিয়ে আজ আমরা তার সফল পরিসমাপ্তির পথে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছি।”
Translation: “The interim government has adopted an extensive reform program to build a strong foundation for a developed and well-governed Bangladesh, and today, through the collective participation of the country’s citizens, we are moving towards its successful completion.”
