Arrest During JUCSU Election
During the ongoing Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) election, Hafizur Rahman Sohan, the central vice-president of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, was arrested from a room in Rabindranath Tagore Hall.
The arrest took place on Thursday, 11 September 2025, at around 11:00 AM.
Profile of the Arrested Leader
The arrested leader, Hafizur Rahman Sohan, currently serves as the central vice-president of Chhatra Dal. He is a former student of English Department, 36th Batch (2006-07) at Jahangirnagar University.
When asked about his presence during JU election in the hall without permission, Sohan said:
“আমি ক্যাম্পাসে এসেছিলাম রাতে। শরীর খারাপ লাগায় এখানে হলে এসে শুয়ে পড়েছি।”
Translation: “I came to the campus at night. I was feeling unwell, so I came to the hall and lay down.”

When questioned whether he had obtained any permission to stay in the residential hall, he replied:
“না আমি কোনো অনুমতি নিইনি।”
Translation: “No, I did not take any permission.”
University Action
After the arrest, the Chhatra Dal leader was handed over to the university’s Proctorial Body.
The provost of the hall, Professor Shafiqul Islam, said:
“নির্বাচন চলাকালে আবাসিক হলে সাবেক শিক্ষার্থীদের অবস্থান করা আচরণবিধির লঙ্ঘন। তাই আমরা তাকে প্রক্টরিয়াল টিমের হাতে তুলে দিচ্ছি।”
Translation: “During the ju election, the presence of former students in the residential hall is a violation of the code of conduct. Therefore, we are handing him over to the Proctorial Team.”
Additionally, Proctor Professor A K M Rashidul Alam stated:
“আমরা তাকে আনতে সিকিউরিটি গার্ড পাঠিয়েছি। বিধি অনুযায়ী তার বিরুদ্ধে ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হবে।”
Translation: “We sent the security guards to bring him. Action will be taken against him according to the rules.”
The arrest highlights the strict enforcement of rules during JU election, especially regarding residential halls. Former students or outsiders are not allowed to stay in the halls during elections, and violations are handled by the Proctorial Body.
