Accident Happened at Night in Chattogram

A tragic accident occurred on Thursday night (June 5) around 10:30 PM on the Kalurghat Bridge in Chattogram. A tourist train heading to Cox’s Bazar crashed into a CNG-run autorickshaw on the bridge, leaving two people dead and several others injured.

Autorickshaw Ignored Signal

According to eyewitnesses, the autorickshaw broke traffic rules and went up on the bridge despite a warning signal. The Tourist Express train hit the vehicle, crushing it badly. One person died on the spot, and several passengers were seriously injured.

Who Were the Victims?

The autorickshaw driver, Tushar, was killed in the accident. Three of the injured have been identified as:

  • Asif Uddin Bappi
  • Asma Ahmed
  • Anju Ara

All injured individuals were taken to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) and admitted to the casualty ward.

More Vehicles Involved

Witnesses said that several motorcycles were also caught under the train. In a video from the scene, a man is seen crying loudly and shouting “Allahu Akbar” while carrying a child on his shoulder. It is believed the child may have been his, but their identity was not confirmed immediately.

Rescue Work Still Ongoing

Aminul Islam, a firefighter from Kalurghat Fire Station, said they got the call around 10:45 PM and immediately sent two rescue units with ambulances. He confirmed that the rescue operations were still ongoing.

Police Confirmation

SI Alauddin Talukder from the CMCH police outpost stated that five injured people had been brought to the hospital. He added that the exact number of deaths and the identities of all victims will be confirmed after further investigation.
