In the upcoming DUCSU election, Bangladesh Nationalist Student Party (Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal – JCD) has made a symbolic decision. They have left the Research and Publication Secretary post empty as a tribute to Sanjida Ahmed Tonni, who was injured in the 24th of July student movement attack by Chhatra League activists. The JCD announced their panel at a press conference in front of Aparajeyo Bangla, Dhaka University, highlighting Tonni’s courage and sacrifice.
Tribute to Sanjida Ahmed Tanvi
Sanjida Ahmed Tonni, a well-known face of the recent student movement, was seriously injured during the 24th of July protest when Chhatra League members attacked demonstrators.
Now, in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, she will contest for the Research and Publication Secretary post.
To honor her, the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has decided not to nominate anyone from their side for this position.

JCD President’s Statement
The decision was announced on Wednesday, 20th August, at 12 PM, during a press conference at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla, Dhaka University.
Central President of JCD, Rakibul Islam Rakib, declared their panel and explained the reason for leaving the post vacant.
He said:
“এ পদে তন্বীর সম্মানে তাদের সংগঠনের কাউকে রাখা হয়নি।”
Translation: “In honor of Tonni, we have not nominated anyone from our organization for this position.”

Along with this symbolic decision, JCD also announced their candidates for the top posts in DUCSU:

Vice President (VP): Abidul Islam Khan – Joint General Secretary of Dhaka University Chhatra Dal and student of Islamic Studies (session 2015-16).

General Secretary (GS): Tanvir Bari Hamim – Convener of Jasim Uddin Hall Chhatra Dal and student of Women and Gender Studies (session 2018-19).
A Symbol of Respect and Protest
This decision reflects JCD’s strategy to highlight Tanvi’s suffering and bravery in the student movement. By leaving the post empty, the organization wants to send a message of solidarity and protest against the attacks on students during the recent demonstrations.
