‘I am Completely Healthy, Chhatra League is Spreading Propaganda Saying I am Dead’-Zulkar Naim’s Protest

Zulkar Naim's Protest

The person whose photo and identity was circulated on social media as ‘Ramzan Kazi’, a Chhatra League activist killed in the recent political violence in Gopalganj, has himself come out in public and said that he is alive, well and completely innocent.

The person who was mistakenly circulated as ‘Ramzan Kazi’ is actually Julkar Naim (nickname Hridoy), son of Ali Akkas Sarkar of Dhopakandi village in Kamarkhand upazila of Sirajganj. He was an active participant in the 2024 anti-discrimination movement, but he also said that he is not affiliated with any political party.

Four people were killed in clashes over the NCP (National Citizens Party) program in Gopalganj on Wednesday. Rumors of the death of one of the deceased, ‘Ramzan Kazi’ from Kotalipara, also spread. Various banned Chhatra League IDs spread that a Chhatra League activist named ‘Ramzan Kazi’ had been killed in the clashes, and that post used Julkar Naim’s photo and information.

In response to this false propaganda, Julkar Naim and his family held a press conference at the Kamarkhand Press Club on Thursday afternoon. Local journalists and students of the anti-discrimination movement were also present.

Julkar Naim said,

Translation: I am alive and completely healthy. I have no affiliation with any political party. However, using my photo and identity, I have been called a member of the banned Chhatra League and called him ‘Ramzan Kazi’. This is completely false, baseless and defamatory.

He expressed his anger and said,

Translation: “It is very sad that such misleading news is being spread in the media and social media without verifying the correct information. I urge the concerned to correct this mistake immediately.”

Julkar Naim’s father Md. Ali Akkas Sarkar said,

Translation: “My son is alive and at home. However, the confusion that has been spread about my son by using false identities and photos in the list of those killed in the clash in Gopalganj yesterday cannot be accepted.”

It is worth mentioning that four people were killed in a clash over an NCP program in Gopalganj on Wednesday. The names of the deceased were Ramzan Kazi of Kotalipara, Deepto Saha of Gopalganj city, Sohel Rana of Tungipara and Emon Talukder of Sadar upazila.

However, the use of the identity and photo of Julkar Naim as ‘Ramzan Kazi’ has created a strong reaction on social media. The victim and his family have demanded a proper investigation and legal action against the culprits.
