Mega projects in Bangladesh have long been associated with massive corruption. Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus reveals how the interim government is uncovering the truth, cutting inflated costs, and working to restore trust and progress.
Chief Adviser of the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, stated that over the past 16 years, there has been massive plundering under the guise of development through so-called mega projects. “All of you know how much looting has taken place in the name of development. These mega projects practically turned into mega looting schemes,” he said during a nationally televised address on Friday evening. Dr. Yunus emphasized, “We have made our utmost efforts to free the people of this country from the grip of looting and corruption.”
He further explained that after assuming office, the interim government reassessed various development projects and discovered that almost all of them included inflated, often fictitious costs.

“With this saved amount, we have cleared all outstanding dues in the energy sector, bringing the arrears down to zero,” the Chief Adviser said. “Paying off foreign debt and freeing the country from all forms of debt traps is our top priority.”
Dr. Yunus stressed the importance of boosting investment and creating new employment opportunities. He added that “If we fail to do this, we won’t be able to take the country to the place we envision. Political parties and the public are giving us their full support in this regard. The widespread interest and enthusiasm among people are a great source of inspiration for us”
