Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has directed that e-learning must begin in at least 100 schools in the Chittagong Hill Tracts by the end of 2025, resolving all barriers including electricity, internet, and skilled teachers.
In a decisive move to expand digital education in remote regions, Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has ordered the launch of e-learning programs in at least 100 schools in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) within this year.
The directive was issued during a high-level meeting held on Wednesday at the State Guest House Jamuna. Present at the meeting were Hill Affairs Advisor Supradeep Chakma, Liberation War Affairs Advisor Faruk-e-Azam, Food and Land Advisor Ali Imam Majumder, Chief Secretary to the Chief Advisor Siraj Uddin Miah, and officials from the primary and secondary education departments.
Officials outlined three core challenges to initiating virtual learning in CHT schools:
-
Acute shortage of electricity in remote areas
-
Lack of reliable internet connectivity
-
Shortage of trained and skilled teachers

To address these, Dr. Yunus proposed a multi-pronged solution:
-
Utilize solar panels to solve the electricity issue
-
Leverage mobile networks and Starlink satellite services for internet access
-
Employ contract-based qualified teachers in identified schools for a fixed term
“To ensure quality education in underprivileged regions of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, we must first prepare a list of 100 schools. We need to know exactly what each school lacks whether it’s internet, devices, or human resources and start resolving those gaps immediately. Classes must begin within this year,” said Dr. Yunus.
He emphasized that top-tier teachers from major urban institutions will teach Math, Science, and English online to students in the hill tracts. “If these children are given the same opportunities and quality teachers as urban students, they too can flourish. With access to education, many talented students from the region will rise to success,” he added.
During the meeting, Hill Affairs Advisor Supradeep Chakma also briefed Dr. Yunus on the need to improve livelihoods and protect the environment across the three CHT districts. The Chief Advisor instructed relevant ministries to coordinate efforts and formulate comprehensive plans accordingly.
