Sheikh Hasina Should Be Hanged 1,400 Times: Chief Prosecutor

Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam said that Sheikh Hasina deserves the death penalty 1,400 times for the killings that took place under her orders. However, he added that even though this is not possible, at least one death sentence is necessary for justice.

Translation: “If one murder deserves one death penalty, Sheikh Hasina should be hanged 1,400 times. Though that’s not possible, it would be injustice if she is not sentenced to death at least once.”

Accusations of Violence and Cruelty

Speaking after the prosecution’s arguments on Thursday (October 16), Tajul Islam claimed that Sheikh Hasina gave direct orders for helicopter gunfire and bomb attacks on protesters.

Translation: “Sheikh Hasina ordered helicopter shootings and bombings. She also instructed hospitals not to treat the injured.”

He further mentioned that even after fleeing to India, Sheikh Hasina continued to threaten the movement activists with death.

Translation: “Even after fleeing to India, Sheikh Hasina is still threatening to kill the protesters.”

Evidence and Legal Process

Tajul Islam said that if such evidence was presented in any court in the world, the highest punishment would be inevitable.

Translation: “In any court in the world, such evidence would lead to the highest punishment.”

He added that since former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun has become a state witness, the tribunal will decide his fate accordingly.

Prosecution’s Demands and Next Steps

Earlier, the prosecution demanded the highest punishment for Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. They also requested that the assets of the accused be sold to compensate the victims.

The defense lawyers appointed by the state will present their counterarguments on October 20. After that, the prosecution will respond again before the tribunal moves forward to deliver the final verdict.
