An Imam of a mosque in Doarabazar Upazila of Sunamganj has been accused of raping a child student. The incident took place on the second floor of the Islampur Jame Mosque in Mannargaon Union of the upazila on Monday (August 11) morning.
A tragic incident took place on the second floor of the Jame Mosque in Islampur village of Mannargaon union in Doarabazar upazila on Monday (August 11) morning. The arrested Sajidur Rahman is a resident of Safela village in Sunamganj Sadar upazila. He is the Imam of Islampur Jame Mosque and a teacher at Islampur Qawmi Madrasa.
It is known from the local that, the child came to the mosque in the morning to learn Arabic at Islampur Jama in Doara Bazar. At one point, Imam Sajidur Rahman (40) sent him to sweep his room on the second floor. Later, when he found him alone, he raped the child in his room. The child told her mother about the matter when she returned home. She later informed the police station. Doara Bazar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mizanur Rahman went to the spot with a force and arrested the accused.

Doarabazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Zahidul Haque said,
আমরা ঘটনার খবর পেয়েই ঘটনাস্থলে যাই এবং তৎক্ষণাৎ অভিযুক্তকে আটক করে থানায় আনা হয়েছে। শিশুটিকে ডাক্তারি পরীক্ষার জন্য সুনামগঞ্জ সদর হাসপাতালে পাঠানো হয়েছে। এ ঘটনায় আইনগত প্রক্রিয়া চলমান আছে।
Translation: “We went to the spot after receiving the news of the incident and immediately arrested the accused and brought him to the police station. The child has been sent to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital for a medical examination. Legal proceedings are ongoing in this incident.”
