Chilli imports: 593 Tonnes from India

Through Benapole Land Port in Jashore, 593 metric tonnes of green chillies were imported from India in the previous two days. 10 tonnes and 956 kg of the total were imported this evening, compared to 581 tonnes and 970 kg yesterday.

The developments were confirmed by Benapole Customs House deputy commissioner Ravindra Singh.
Benapole Customs sources reveal that on Monday, 28 importers from Bangladesh brought in Tk 3.34 crore worth of green chillies from India, paying Tk 60,000 per tonne in addition to Tk 36,000 in import duties. Therefore, Tk 60 per kg was the import price for the green chillies.After paying customs charges, the importers received their particular shipments from Benapole port.

The import was made at a time when local markets were seeing a sharp increase in the price of green chiles.
