China Executes Former Government Official for Taking Massive Bribes

China has executed a former government official after he was found guilty of taking an enormous amount of bribes. South China Morning Post reported the news on Tuesday, December 9.

According to China’s state-run media CCTV, Bai Tianhui served in a key role at the asset management company China CITIC Financial Asset Management from 2014 to 2018.

During this period, he illegally accepted bribes totaling 156 million USD. Using his influential government position, he accumulated this vast amount of money through corruption. In May last year, a court sentenced him to death for these offenses.

He later appealed the verdict to the country’s highest court, but the appeal was rejected, and the death sentence was carried out. Recently, the Xi Jinping administration has been conducting a major anti-corruption campaign targeting financial institutions.
