At least 25 people were injured in a clash between two groups over a Facebook post in Bijoynagar, Brahmanbaria. The incident took place in the Hajipur area of the upazila on Saturday (August 16) morning. The tension that started over statuses and comments on social media regarding the allocation of electoral seats turned into a bloody clash on Saturday after the beating on Thursday. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control and additional forces have been deployed in the area.

Reason Behind The Clash
According to local sources, tension arose over statuses and comments on Facebook regarding the allocation of electoral seats in three unions of Bijoynagar. As a result, Dana Mia of the Akshi group beat up an old man named Arju Mia (70) of the Pathan group on Thursday afternoon. Tension had been prevailing between the two groups in the area since that incident.

On Saturday morning, followers of Shahjahan Molla of the Akshi group and those of Humayun Miah of the Pathan group clashed. At least 25 people from both sides were injured. Police reached the spot on receiving information and brought the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed in the area to prevent tension. Vijaynagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shahidul Islam said,
“ঘটনাস্থলে অতিরিক্ত পুলিশ মোতায়েন করা হয়েছে। এখনো কেউ থানায় লিখিত অভিযোগ দেয়নি। অভিযোগ পেলে আইনগত ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হবে।”
Translation: “Additional police have been deployed at the scene. No one has filed a written complaint with the police station yet. Legal action will be taken if a complaint is received.”
The names and identities of those injured in the clash were not available. However, they are currently receiving treatment at various health centers.
