GM Quader

A Dhaka court has issued a temporary order stopping Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader and a party official from performing their organizational duties. The order also reverses the removal of 10 senior party members, calling it unconstitutional.

Details are given below:

Court Stops GM Quader from Leading Party Activities

On July 31, 2025, the First Joint District Judge’s Court in Dhaka, presided over by Judge Md. Nurul Islam, issued a temporary injunction stopping GM Quader, the Chairman of Jatiya Party, and Mahmud Alam, the party’s Joint Office Secretary, from conducting any organizational activities.

The court’s bench assistant Sakhawat Hossain confirmed this legal decision on Thursday.

What the Court Said in Its Order

The judge stated:

“Since the case is under trial, the court has temporarily restored the primary membership and all-party positions of the 10 dismissed individuals. GM Quader and Mahmud Alam are restricted from taking any organizational decisions until the case ends.”

The court also banned the use of Article 20(1)(ka) of the party’s constitution until the case is resolved. Furthermore, the court instructed that party functions must continue based on seniority and order.

Plaintiff Lawyer Comments on the Verdict

Plaintiff lawyer Abdul Bari told reporters:

“Until further instructions from the court, GM Quader is temporarily barred from conducting any organizational activities.”

He added that the 10 dismissed members must be treated as full members again, as per the court’s instructions.

Background of the Case

The lawsuit claims that on July 18, 2019, Mashiur Rahman Ranga, then Secretary General of the party, declared GM Quader as Chairman in a constitutionally flawed way. Later, on December 28, 2019, GM Quader held a party council and approved a new constitution, which the plaintiffs argue was also unlawful.

Then, on June 28, 2025, GM Quader dismissed 10 senior leaders, removed their names from the official party website, and stripped them of all positions.

On July 10, 2025, all 10 affected members filed a case against GM Quader and three other individuals, challenging the legality of his actions.
