Denmark’s Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU) has committed $12.5 million to AKS Khan Pharmaceuticals, one of Bangladesh’s prominent pharmacy chains. This investment will help AKS Khan Pharmaceuticals expand its network, with plans to open 100 new pharmacies and diagnostic centers across the country. The company aims to increase its reach to 8 million patients annually within the next three years, a significant leap from the 1.5 million patients it currently serves each year.
The agreement was signed at a ceremony at the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka, with people from both IFU and AKS Khan Holdings there. Christian Brix Møller, Denmark’s ambassador to Bangladesh, mentioned that this investment shows real confidence in Bangladesh’s progress, especially at such an important time.
Samanzar S Khan, managing director of AKS Khan Holdings, shared that the expansion is a crucial step in providing better healthcare services to a larger portion of the population. Lars Bo Bertram, CEO of IFU, emphasized the importance of access to quality, authentic medicine, which he said is essential for treating chronic diseases and improving the lives of millions in Bangladesh.
Since 1990, IFU has been active in Bangladesh, having invested over €300 million in various sectors, including water treatment and fertilizer production. This new investment will further strengthen Bangladesh’s healthcare infrastructure, bringing vital medical services to millions of people in need.
