1.Introduction

Dhaka Commerce College (DCC),one of the best private college in Bangladesh’s prominent education institutions since 1989. It was the first college in Dhaka to specialize in business studies. 2.Vision to Reality: The origins of Dhaka Commerce College

Dhaka Commerce College (DCC) project implementation committee was established in 1986 to create a specialized institution for Business Studies. This committee was leading by Kazi Md. Nurul Islam Faruky, Associate Professor in the Department of Management at Dhaka College, the committee also included ABM Abul Quashem, then Education Inspector, as co-convener. Additional members were M. Helal, Editor of the monthly University Campus, and S.R. Mojumdar, Lecturer in the Department of Management at Dhaka College, with Mahfuzul Haque Shahin serving as the Member Secretary.

This college officially opened on 1 July 1989, operation from King Khaled Institute in Lalmatia, Dhaka. Then it moved to a rented site in Dhanmondi 8/A before relocated to it’s permanent campus. On 22 January 1995,DCC moved to it’s permanent campus on Bangladesh National Zoo Road, Mirpur, Dhaka. First principal of this college was Shamsul Huda. After that Professor Kazi Md. Nurul Islam Faruky, who served from August 1990 to September 2010. ABM Abul Quashem then became Acting Principal, and since March 2012, Professor Md. Abu Sayeed has been leading the institution.

Major milestones in its journey:

•1989: Officially began its academic activities, initially offering Higher Secondary and B.Com (Pass) courses.
•1994-1995: Introduced Honours and Masters degree programs in various business disciplines under the affiliation of the National University.
•1995: Shifted to its permanent campus located at Mirpur.
•1997-1998: Launched the four-year BBA (Professional) program.
•1996 & 2002: Received the prestigious “Best College” award from the Ministry of Education for its outstanding contributions to education.
•2015, 2016, & 2017: Recognized as the “Best Private College” by the National University based on its academic performance and overall standards.
•2019-2020: Expanded its academic offerings to include the Higher Secondary program in Science.

5.1.Campus Building:

It has two main academic buildings, including 11-storied and 15- storied structure. They provide air-conditioning classroom for a comfortable learning environment. A separate building caters to the administrative function of the college. A spacious and well- equipped auditorium with a seating capabilities of approximate 1600 available for hosting college events, semesters and cultural programs.

5.2. Libraries:

Usually it has an inviting as well as conductive learning as well as research environment, available space for reading, carrels for studying and also group discussion space. In the library many assistance like research help, inter-library loans which can provide instructions about information also available. Those libraries are cover with air conditioner. It has two types of libraries, including
•Central Library: Central library is not a specific for each department. Everything department students can use this for accomplished their knowledge. It is located 3rd floor of Academic Building-1.
•Seminar Libraries: Seminar library is providing by each academic department.

5.3. Computer Labs:

DCC provides well-equipped computer Labs. These labs are equipped with updated modern computers and internet access. Facilitate practical learning in relevant subject, as the Computer Science and Engineering program.

5.4.Facilities for students:

DCC provides various support for the students well-being and academic progress. They offer hostel for female students with a capacity of 72 seats which is accomplish with food and a conducive student environment.

DCC also offer counseling programs to provides guidelines and support to students which will help them in their academic and personal lives. A cafeteria also available on campus, providing students good and healthy foods with the access to meal and refreshments. They also provides medical support on their campus.

5.5.Lab facilities for Science students:

DCC provides laboratory facilities for it’s Science students, those enrolled in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC). They have modernized science labs. The labs are equipped with contemporary instruments and resources necessary for conducting practical experiments in physics, chemical and biology.They have separate labs for specific subjects.

Physics labs are equipped for experiments related to mechanics, optics, electricity, magnetism and so on. Chemistry labs are equipped with the necessary apparatus and chemicals for their experiments in inorganic, organic and physical chemistry. Biology labs are equipped with specimens, microscopes, slides and other materials for both zoology and botany.

BNCC: Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) is a voluntary organization and second grade defense force run under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Education simultaneously. The cadets of Dhaka Commerce College platoon has been regularly participating in national and international flotillas and institutional programmers. The BNCC platoon of Dhaka Commerce College regularly participates in annual training camps, central training camps, flotilla training, exercise and various national programmers. Apart from these the BNCC platoon volunteers in maintaining discipline in annual sports, annual feast, annual prize giving ceremony, fresher’s reception, farewell of the examinees and other important programmers.

Language clubs: Language club has included day-to-day conversation, debating, spelling competition, reading and writing competition, extempore speech competition etcetera in the list of its regular activities.

Social welfare club: These clubs aim at benefiting society by doing voluntary work and community service. They participate in many activities such as blood donation camps, conservations camps, charitable fundraising activities, reach-out programs with below-poverty-line communities, developing citizenship among students, and making students socially more responsible.

Best college awards: Dhaka Commerce College achieve twice as the “Best College” in Bangladesh by Ministry of Education in 1996 and 2002.

Top Ranking: DCC ranked as “Best Private College” in Bangladesh by the National University (NU). It ranked several consecutive years, 2015,2016,2017,2018 and 2023. National University recognized DCC as the 4th best college in 2015 and 3rd best college in Dhaka-Mymensingh region.

Achievement in Public Examinations: DCC achieve record excellent results in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) under Dhaka education board. From 2003 to 2018,total of 6538 students achieve GPA 5.00.
