Dhaka-Tangail Highway Fire Erupts on Moving Truck, Triggers Massive Traffic Jam

Dhaka-Tangail Highway Fire Disaster

A fire broke out on a moving mini truck on the Dhaka-Tangail highway near Kaliakair, causing a massive traffic jam on both sides.

The incident occurred around 4 PM on Wednesday, June 4, in the Chandra Palli Bidyut area of Kaliakair upazila in Gazipur. According to local residents and the fire service, the mini truck had earlier transported cattle from Rangpur to Dhaka. After offloading the cattle in Dhaka, it began its return journey to Rangpur, this time carrying several passengers. While passing through the Chandra Palli Bidyut area, the truck got stuck in traffic. Suddenly, a fire ignited in the engine, reportedly from an underground gas leak beneath the truck.

Fortunately, all the passengers, including the driver and his assistant, quickly jumped off and narrowly escaped. The flames engulfed the truck within moments. A fire service unit from Kaliakair responded promptly and managed to bring the fire under control after about 30 minutes. However, by that time, a severe traffic jam had developed on both sides of the Dhaka-Tangail highway.

Md. Iftekhar Raihan, Station Officer of the Kaliakair Fire Service, stated that the fire likely started due to a gas leak beneath the truck during the traffic standstill. The fire has been successfully extinguished, he confirmed.
