Two Bangladeshi farmers were allegedly detained by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the Dharmajoyn border in Biral upazila of Dinajpur. In response, local villagers captured two Indian nationals and are currently holding them in custody.
According to local sources, the incident occurred around 12:00 PM on Friday (May 2) when two farmers are Masud and Enamul were harvesting paddy near the border in Dharmajoyn under Dharmapur Union of Biral. BSF members reportedly apprehended them from the area between sub-pillars 9 and 10 of the 320 main border pillar.
The incident sparked outrage among locals, who retaliated by detaining two Indian nationals identified as Abinash Tudu and Philip Soren. They were brought across the border and are currently being held at the Karulia Government Primary School.

Sources from the Biral upazila administration and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) confirmed that preparations are underway for a flag meeting between the two countries’ border forces to de-escalate the situation. Discussions are ongoing to ensure the exchange of detained citizens.
Locals have alleged that such harassment by BSF personnel has become a regular threat for those working near the border. Community members and human rights organizations have strongly condemned the incident, citing violations of bilateral agreements and human rights.
As of the time of reporting, no official confirmation had been given about the return of the detained farmers, though authorities assured that efforts are ongoing for a quick resolution.
