Football World Mourns the Loss of Portuguese Star Diogo Jota and His Younger Brother
Portuguese footballer Diogo Jota and his younger brother Andre Silva have tragically passed away in a horrific car accident on the Rías Bajas highway in Zamora, northwestern Spain.
The fatal crash occurred in the early hours of Thursday, Spanish time, when their rented Lamborghini Huracan reportedly suffered a tire explosion during an overtake attempt around kilometer 65. Losing control, the car veered off the road and erupted into flames.
Firefighters from Rionegro del Puente reached the scene quickly but the vehicle was already completely burned. Emergency responders confirmed both brothers had died at the scene. The Zamora government office stated that GPS data from the car suggests speeding may also have contributed to the accident.

A distress call from a witness triggered a full emergency response, including traffic police, firefighters, and medical teams. Unfortunately, it was too late to save them. Identification was confirmed through recovered passports and documents, supported by a relative who had earlier reported their delay.
The global football community is in deep mourning. Diogo Jota was a key forward for Liverpool and the Portuguese national team. His 25-year-old brother André was also involved in professional football. Tributes from teammates, clubs, and fans continue to pour in for the two lost talents.
