DNA Test Reveals Identities of 5 Victims in Milestone Plane Crash

The tragic plane crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, had left several bodies badly burnt and unrecognizable. After intense investigation and DNA analysis, five out of six severely disfigured bodies have now been identified, according to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police.

DNA Samples Collected for Confirmation

To confirm the identities of the victims, CID collected DNA samples from 11 close family members. These samples were matched with the remains of the deceased.

DIG Md. Jamsher Ali from CID’s forensic unit confirmed the development on Thursday (July 24) afternoon.

CID Confirms Identification of Five Victims

CID’s Special Superintendent of Police, Jasim Uddin Khan, stated:

“বিমান বিধ্বস্তের ঘটনায় গত দুইদিনে বিকৃত হয়ে যাওয়া পাঁচ মরদেহ বা দেহাবশেষ থেকে ১১টি ডিএনএ নমুনা সংগ্রহ করে ফরেনসিক বিভাগ। কিছুক্ষণ আগে ৫ জনের পরিচয় শনাক্ত করা হয়। এ বিষয়ে বিস্তারিত পরে জানানো হবে।”
Translation: “In the last two days, DNA samples were collected from five disfigured bodies or remains following the plane crash. A total of 11 samples were taken. A short while ago, five victims were positively identified. More details will be shared soon.”

One Body Still Unidentified

Authorities have yet to identify one remaining body. Officials said efforts are ongoing to determine the final identity through further DNA cross-matching and investigation.

Background of the Tragedy

The plane crash at Milestone School left the nation in mourning. Due to the intensity of the explosion and fire, several bodies were beyond recognition, prompting the use of DNA testing for accurate identification.

Government and Families Await Final Closure

The families of the victims, along with government officials, are awaiting the full identification report. Once completed, arrangements for proper burial and official honours for the deceased will be made.
