A day after engaging in a heated exchange with the Director General(DG) of the Directorate General of Health Services, Md. Abu Jafar, a doctor at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital has submitted an unconditional apology in response to a show-cause notice.
On Sunday around 11 AM, Dr. Dhandeb Chandra Barman submitted his written explanation to the hospital director, acknowledging his mistake and expressing remorse. Speaking to the media, Dr. Barman said,
“শোকজের চিঠি হাতে পাওয়ার পর আমি জবাব দিয়েছি। ডিজি বয়স্ক মানুষ, আমারও বেয়াদবি হয়েছে। তাই আমি আন্তরিকভাবে দুঃখ প্রকাশ করে নিঃশর্ত ক্ষমা চেয়েছি।”
Translation: “After receiving the show-cause letter, I submitted my reply. The DG is an elderly person, and I admit I behaved improperly. So I sincerely expressed regret and offered an unconditional apology.”
How the Confrontation Happened
The incident took place on Saturday when DG Abu Jafar visited Mymensingh Medical College Hospital to attend a seminar as the chief guest at the Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman Auditorium. Before the event, he inspected several units of the hospital.
During his visit to the Casualty Operation Theatre, the DG questioned why a table was placed inside the room. The inquiry quickly escalated into a verbal confrontation with the Casualty In-Charge, Dr. Barman.
Dr. Barman has been serving as the In-Charge of the One-Stop Service since August 8, 2023. He was promoted from Residential Surgeon to Assistant Professor earlier this year in July. Following the conflict, he was relieved of his responsibilities and issued a show-cause notice demanding an explanation.

The day before submitting his apology, Dr. Barman spoke to the media with a tone of disappointment about his career progression. He said,
“ডিজির কাছ থেকে গুরুজনের মতো আচরণ আশা করেছিলাম। সমস্যাগুলো জানতে না চেয়ে তিনি ভেতরে টেবিল নিয়ে কথা বলেন। আমার বন্ধুরা সবাই অধ্যাপক হয়ে গেছে। আমার চাকরিজীবন প্রায় শেষ, কিন্তু আমি পারিনি নানা কারণে। এ জন্য চাকরি থেকে সাসপেনশন হলেও আমি খুশি হবো।”
Translation: “I expected respectful behavior from the DG, like a guardian. Instead of asking about problems, he focused on why there was a table inside. Many of my friends have become professors. My career is almost over, yet I could not achieve that due to various reasons. Even if I am suspended, I will accept it with peace.”
His comments reflected long-standing frustration over missed opportunities and professional struggles. Confirming the administrative actions, the hospital’s Assistant Director (Administration), Mainuddin Khan, stated:
ওই চিকিৎসককে শোকজ করা হয়েছে এবং দায়িত্ব থেকে অব্যাহতি দেওয়া হয়েছে। এখন তার বিষয়ে সিদ্ধান্ত নেবে ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্তৃপক্ষ।
Translation: “A show-cause notice has been issued to the doctor, and he has been relieved of his duties. Now, the final decision will be taken by the higher authorities.”
