Doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) have provided the latest update on the condition of Sharif Osman Hadi, the independent candidate for Dhaka-8 in the 13th National Election and spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho.
On Friday (12 December) afternoon, DMCH Emergency Department’s Residential Surgeon Dr Mostaq Ahmed informed the media that a bullet is lodged inside Hadi’s head. Dr Ahmed said,
Translation:“When Hadi was brought to the emergency unit, his condition was extremely critical. CPR was administered immediately. His blood pressure has improved slightly now. However, a bullet remains inside his head, and he was shot near his ear.”
Earlier at around 2:20 PM, unidentified assailants shot Sharif Osman Hadi in the Bijoynagar Water Tank area of the capital.
Misbah, who rescued Hadi and brought him to the hospital, told the media,
Translation:“After finishing Juma prayer, we were passing through the Motijheel-Bijoynagar culvert area in a rickshaw. Two men on a motorcycle appeared and opened fire. The bullet hit him below his left ear. They fled immediately. We then took him to the hospital by rickshaw.”
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Talebur Rahman said,
Translation:“We still don’t have the full details. But preliminary information suggests he was traveling in a rickshaw when motorcycle-riding attackers shot him.”
Hadi had earlier stated that he had received death threats. Last November, he reportedly received various threats from 30 different local and international phone numbers.
On 14 November, he wrote in a Facebook post that he had been threatened with murder, arson attacks on his house, and even threats of rape against his mother, sister, and wife.
