Trump’s Bold Claim on Peace Efforts

US President Donald Trump claimed that he successfully stopped seven wars worldwide through his strategy of using trade as leverage. Speaking at the American Cornerstone Institute’s Founders Dinner on Saturday, Trump said these achievements should earn him a Nobel Peace Prize.

He stressed that his contribution to peace is unmatched:

“We are now earning respect on the world stage by doing things that were never done before. We are making peace deals and stopping wars. We stopped India–Pakistan war, we stopped Thailand–Cambodia war.”

Using Trade to Stop Conflicts

Trump explained that his method was simple — to use trade as a bargaining chip.

“Just think of the India–Pakistan conflict. Do you know how I stopped it? Through trade. They want to do business. I deeply respect the leaders of both countries. But look at how many wars we stopped — India–Pakistan, Thailand–Cambodia, Armenia–Azerbaijan, Kosovo–Serbia, Israel–Iran, Egypt–Ethiopia, Rwanda–Congo. In total, 60% of wars stopped because of trade.”

He further added:

“Like I told India, if you go to war, then there will be no trade. And remember, they have nuclear weapons. After that, they stopped.”

Trump on Nobel Prize Recognition

According to Trump, his peace efforts have been underestimated. He argued that while many suggest he could win the Nobel Peace Prize if he stops the Russia–Ukraine war, his earlier achievements are being ignored.

“People told me, if you stop the Russia–Ukraine war, you will get a Nobel Prize. I said, what about the other seven wars? I should get a Nobel for each of them. They said ending the Russia–Ukraine war might bring me the prize. But I said I already stopped seven — this is just one, though a big one.”

Thoughts on Russia–Ukraine War

Trump said he once thought the Russia–Ukraine conflict would be the easiest to solve because of his good relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, he admitted he was disappointed.

Still, he expressed hope that the war will eventually come to an end:

“In some way, this war will end. It has to.”
