Law Adviser Urges Doctors to End Medical Exploitation

Law Adviser Dr. Asif Najrul addressed doctors on Saturday, calling on them to avoid unnecessary medical tests and to not become intermediaries for profit. He made these remarks at an event organized by the Bangladesh Private Hospital Clinic and Diagnostic Owners’ Association.

Stop Unnecessary Tests:

Translation: “People do not want to go to India or Thailand for treatment. Bangladesh has the ability to provide proper medical care.”

He urged doctors not to force patients to buy medicines from specific companies and not to act as agents for pharmaceutical representatives.

Addressing Exploitation:

Translation: “Are you agents of pharmaceutical companies? How far are you taking yourselves?”

He called for an end to these forms of exploitation, reminding that most people in Bangladesh are poor.

He shared an example from his own life:

Translation: “There was a boy at my house helping me. He went to a private hospital in Dhaka and was given 14 tests. Later, he got angry and sought treatment outside Dhaka, where so many tests were not needed.”

He also said,

Translation: “If a nurse is paid only 12,000 taka, how can she provide good service while maintaining composure?”

He appealed to hospital owners to reduce excessive profit margins to ensure better patient care.
