Speaking at a discussion titled “Post-July Revolution Realities and Our Responsibilities” at the Jeshore Zila Parishad Auditorium on Saturday evening, Dr. Mahmudur Rahman, Editor of Daily Amar Desh, delivered a strongly worded keynote address focusing on sovereignty, political reform, and cultural revival.
Taking a firm stance on foreign political interference, he stated:
ভারতের দালালি করে আর কেউ ক্ষমতায় যেতে পারবে না। ভারতের প্রশ্নে কোনো ছাড় নেই। যারা বা যে দল ভারতের দালালি করবে, তাদের প্রতিহত করতে হবে।
Translation:“There will no longer be a way to come to power by lobbying for India. On the question of India, there is no compromise. Whoever supports or works as an agent of India must be resisted.”
Addressing the future of Bangladesh’s governance, he said that a peaceful, credible, and truly participatory election is the only route back to democratic order. He alleged:
দিল্লি থেকে দেশকে বিপর্যস্ত করার চেষ্টা চলছে। শান্তিপূর্ণ ও গ্রহণযোগ্য নির্বাচন হয়ে গেলে তারা আর ঘোলা পানিতে মাছ শিকার করার সুযোগ পাবে না। এজন্য সরকারের পাশাপাশি নাগরিক সমাজ, রাজনৈতিক দলসহ সবাইকে ঐক্যবদ্ধ হয়ে কাজ করার আহ্বান
Translation:“Attempts are being made to destabilize Bangladesh from Delhi. If we can hold a fair election, they will lose the opportunity to fish in troubled waters.”
He called upon not just the authorities but also civil society, political platforms and citizens to work collectively, warning that democracy cannot be restored by government efforts alone.

On electoral responsibility, he urged political parties to make a public pledge:
শুধু সরকারই নির্বাচনে কারচুপি করে না, রাজনৈতিক দলও করে। আপনারা জনগণের কাছে ওয়াদা করেন যে, আপনারা কারচুপি করবেন না।
Translation: “Not only governments manipulate elections political parties do it too. Promise the people that you will not commit rigging.”
Dr. Mahmudur Rahman portrayed the youth involved in the July uprising as the emerging political voice of the nation:
জুলাই গণঅভ্যুত্থানের মাধ্যমে দেশের তরুণরা নতুন রাজনৈতিক শক্তি হিসেবে জেগে উঠেছে। যারা জুলাই যুদ্ধে অংশ নিয়েছে, তারা প্রত্যেকেই এই পলিটিক্যাল পাওয়ারের অংশ। এদেরকে কেউ ‘ইগনোর’ করতে পারবে না।
Translation: “The young generation who stood up in the July revolution are now a recognized political power. No one can ignore them anymore.”
He connected political transformation with cultural renewal, criticizing what he called “Hindutva-influenced intellectual dominance” in education and history-writing:
কোনো পলিটিক্যাল স্ট্রাগল বিজয়ী হবে না, যদি না কালচারাল স্ট্রাগলে বিজয়ী হতে পারি। হিন্দুত্ববাদী সিস্টেম আমাদের বাঙালি মুসলমানের ইতিহাস ও ঐতিহ্য শিখতে দেয়নি। ভারতীয়দের দ্বারা অনুপ্রাণিত হয়ে আমরা বইপুস্তক লিখেছি। সেখানে বাঙালি মুসলমানের ইতিহাস-ঐতিহ্য স্থান পায়নি। লেখাপড়ায় বাঙালি মুসলমানের ইতিহাস-ঐতিহ্য তুলে আনতে পারলে সাংস্কৃতিক আধিপত্য পরাজিত করা সম্ভব হবে
Translation: “No political struggle can win unless we also win the cultural struggle. Bengali Muslim history and identity were never properly represented because we followed Indian-influenced writings. If we can win this cultural war, we will also win the political war.
During his address, he offered a strong and personal political opinion regarding former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina:
হাসিনা আর ফিরবে না, ক্লোজড। অবাধ ও সুষ্ঠু নির্বাচন করতে পারলে, শেখ হাসিনার মতো ফ্যাসিস্টের কবর রচনা হয়ে যাবে। তাই ভোটারদের প্রতি আহ্বান জানিয়ে বলেন, কোনো ভারতীয় দালালকে ভোট দেবেন না। আমরা দল বুঝি না। আমরা শুধু বুঝি ভারতীয় কোনো দালাল যেন সংসদে যেতে না পারে।
Translation:“Hasina will never return — it’s closed. If a free and fair election can be ensured, the political chapter of a fascist like Sheikh Hasina will come to an end.”
Calling on the voters, he added, “Do not vote for anyone who acts as an agent of India. We are not concerned about political parties; we are only concerned that no agent of India be allowed to enter Parliament.”

He also expressed optimism by saying,
১৮ কোটির বাংলাদেশে দিল্লি আর কোনোদিন আধিপত্য বিস্তার করতে পারবে না
Translation:“In a country of 180 million people, Delhi will never again be able to establish dominance.”
The event emphasized a recurring themethat Bangladesh must decide its future independently, through cultural awareness, youth participation, political integrity, and a transparent electoral process.
While Dr. Mahmudur Rahman’s remarks were bold, confrontational and highly political, his speech reflected the ongoing debate in Bangladesh over national sovereignty, generational change, and the future structure of democratic leadership.
The discussion highlighted a deep desire among many citizens for a future that is free from external pressure, internal authoritarianism, and manipulated elections.
