In a significant development, Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus held a high-level meeting with the chiefs of the country’s three armed forces at Jamuna on Friday evening.
According to a senior law enforcement official, the meeting ended around 8:18 PM, after which the attendees left Jamuna.
A source from the Chief Adviser’s Office confirmed to The Business Standard that Dr. Yunus met with Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman, Navy Chief Admiral M. Nazmul Hassan, and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan. The meeting reportedly began earlier in the evening and lasted for some time.
However, one official, requesting anonymity, mentioned that the meeting was not initiated by the Chief Adviser himself. Instead, the three service chiefs coordinated among themselves and decided to meet Dr. Yunus for discussions.
“The Chief Adviser had a pre-scheduled meeting with the service chiefs, mainly to discuss the possible deployment of armed forces personnel during the upcoming national election,” the official said.
But he was not aware of the full agenda or topics that were discussed in today’s meeting. Sources also indicated that the chiefs had left their respective headquarters earlier in the evening to attend the meeting at Jamuna.
The meeting is being viewed as strategically important, especially with Bangladesh approaching a sensitive election period amid heightened political tensions.
