Dr. Yunus is an internationally skilled conspirator: Fazlur Rahman

Fazlur Rahman

Fazlur Rahman said that after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, the true faces of many people started to emerge. According to him, some groups began speaking and acting against the ideals of the Liberation War. He expressed disappointment that discussions questioning the importance of the 1971 Liberation War started appearing in public and political spaces.

Claims of Attempts to Undermine the Liberation War

He alleged that certain groups tried to change the historical narrative by claiming that 1947 and 2024 were the real independence moments, while describing 1971 as merely a “conflict.” He said,

“১৯৪৭ ও ২০২৪ মূল স্বাধীনতা। মানে ১৯৭১ ছিল একটা ‘গণ্ডগোল’।”
Translation: “They say 1947 and 2024 are the real independence, and that 1971 was just a ‘disturbance’.”

He strongly rejected this view and said the Liberation War was a historic and justified struggle against oppression.

Role of Anti-Liberation Forces in 1971

Fazlur Rahman also spoke about the role of collaborators during the war, mentioning groups such as Razakar, Al-Badr, and Al-Shams. He stated that these groups helped the Pakistani army by identifying homes and assisting in violence against civilians.

Allegations Against Dr. Muhammad Yunus

One of the strongest parts of his statement was directed at Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. Fazlur Rahman accused him of indirectly allowing anti–Liberation War activities during his time in power. He wrote,

“ড. ইউনূস আন্তর্জাতিক মানের একজন চক্রান্তকারী… তিনি ছিলেন এগুলোর মূল ‘শেল্টার মাস্টার’।”
Translation: “Dr. Yunus is an internationally skilled conspirator… he acted as the main ‘shelter master’ behind these events.”

Fazlur Rahman claimed that attacks on Liberation War memorials and restrictions on national day celebrations happened under Yunus’s administration. Fazlur Rahman said that during this period, Liberation War sculptures were vandalized and national days like March 26 and December 16 were not properly observed.
