Dr. Yunus Urges Islamic NGOs

To foster sustainable development and alleviate poverty in the Muslim world, Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has called upon Islamic NGOs to take a more active role in promoting social business.

During a meeting on Sunday (July 6) at the State Guest House Jamuna with leaders of various NGOs from the Muslim world, Dr. Yunus stated,

“We focus on empowering women and improving healthcare. But if you are poor, you will struggle with access to healthcare. We have found that social business can be an effective way to provide support to the poor.”

He added,

“Social business offers a sustainable method to continue providing this support.”

Dr. Yunus also encouraged young people around the world to embrace social business and become entrepreneurs. According to a statement from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, the NGO leaders present at the meeting acknowledged that Dr. Yunus’s advocacy of social business in recent years has inspired similar initiatives in their own countries.
