In Jagannathpur village, Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila, a 7-year-old child died due to a severe beating by his father. Sunday (16 February), this incident happened in the evening. The child’s name is Mahid.
Known from a source that his father, Khokon Mia, is a ‘drug addict and businessman’. On Sunday afternoon, Khokon got angry with his second wife’s son Mahid for defecating on the bed. In this incident, he brought Mahid out of the house and started beating him. Mahid fled from there and took refuge in a neighbor’s house. From there he started beating again. At one point, he threw it to the ground from above. After that, Mahid was held by both legs and pressed against the concrete pillar; blood started to flow from his nose. As the situation was critical, Khokon himself appeared with Mahid at Moulvibazar General Hospital with 250 beds. Later the doctor on duty declared Mahid dead. At this time, Khokon resorted to cleverness about the cause of his son’s death. As the cause of death, he mentioned that Mahid died by falling from a tree. After that, he fled from there, saying that he was going to take the body home. Sadar Model Police Station reached the spot after receiving the information, but the body and Khokon were not found there. He tried to disappear without taking the body home.
Neighbors said that about 15 years ago, Khokon left his first wife and married a woman named Tanya Akhtar. A few years ago, the second wife got married elsewhere as she was not getting along with her husband. Khokon left his second wife’s sons, Mahid (7) and Rafid (5). Since then they lived near Baba Khokon Mia. For a long time, the ‘drug addict’ Khokon Mia tortured their two brothers for trivial reasons. He did not give proper food to the children.
Gazi Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Moulvibazar Model Police Station, said, “After receiving information about the incident, raids were conducted at various places, including his house, to recover the bodies of father Khokon and the child. The child’s body was hidden by his father in a secluded place on the hill on the east side of the house. When the police came out of the house, Khokon left the body in the house and ran away. He was arrested later that night from the district jail area. Khokon confessed to the murder in the initial interrogation”.
