Education and Primary Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon has announced a new directive regarding the children of Deputy Commissioners (DCs). He said that DCs’ children will no longer be allowed to study in Dhaka while their parents are posted in other districts. Instead, they must study in schools within the district where the DC is currently working.

Statement at Rajshahi Meeting

Education Minister made these remarks on Saturday (April 11) at a meeting with exam center secretaries ahead of the SSC and equivalent exams. The event was held at the auditorium of Rajshahi Medical College. He also suggested that the Ministry of Public Administration should make it mandatory for DCs’ children to attend district schools. He said,

Translation: “The Ministry of Public Administration should make it mandatory for DCs’ children to study in district schools. These are very detailed matters, and we must pay attention to them.”

Education Minister expressed concern over the changing nature of exam cheating. He said that students are now using innovative and digital methods to cheat. To tackle this, all educational institutions and exam centres will gradually be brought under CCTV surveillance to ensure transparency and strict monitoring.

Criticism of Teachers’ Negligence

He strongly criticized some teachers for not checking answer sheets themselves. he said,

Translation: “Many teachers do not check answer sheets themselves and instead use helpers. There have even been cases where answer sheets were written days later.”

The minister warned that this will not be allowed anymore. Random answer sheet re-evaluation will be conducted to ensure fairness.

Warning for Poor Performing Schools

Addressing schools with zero pass rates, he gave a strong message. He warns,

Translation: “If no one passes in a school or if the result is zero, I may not take direct action, but I will say things that will make you uncomfortable.”

He urged schools and teachers to prepare seriously for better results. The minister also warned against organized cheating networks in institutions. The minister made it clear that the government is focused on students who are serious about their studies. He said,

Translation: “We do not want anyone to pass without exams or earn certificates without merit. Those who only spend time on TikTok and do not study are not our concern; we care about those who are serious about their education.”

Call for Education System Reform

He also criticized the competition among education boards over pass rates and suggested introducing a unified question paper system across the country. According to him, major reforms are needed in the education system to ensure students do not waste valuable time in their academic life. The event was attended by the Chairman of the Rajshahi Education Board, senior officials from the technical board, local Members of Parliament, and administrative officials.
