Advance ticket sales for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha have begun online through the railway. Today, Saturday, tickets for June 3rd are being sold. In just the first 30 minutes, the railway’s online ticketing platform recorded 11.4 million hits.

The online ticketing process began at 8 a.m. today. During this time, passengers were able to purchase advance tickets for trains operating in the western region. Tickets for trains operating in the eastern region will be available online at around 2 p.m.

According to railway sources, by 9 a.m. all tickets for the western region were sold out. As usual, demand for tickets to the northern region was specially high. Multiple sources within the railway reported that from the early morning, millions of people tried to get tickets online for June 3rd, the date of the Eid journey. However, despite this massive number of hits, the number of available seats was very limited, leaving many passengers disappointed after failing to get tickets.

In a fan group for railway enthusiasts on social media, a passenger named Hossain Azad wrote, “I’m not getting any tickets online. After trying hard and completing all the steps, even after the payment was deducted, I didn’t receive a ticket.”

Meanwhile, many users complained that the server kept crashing, and it took a long time to log in or complete payment. Kamalapur Railway Station Manager Md. Shahadat Hossain told that “Since the start of advance ticket sales, today we’ve seen the highest number of online hits. We expect even higher demand for tickets in the next two days.”

The railway authorities announced that this Eid, 10 special trains will operate on five different routes. Some of these trains will run between June 4th and 6th, and again from June 9th to 14th, after Eid. Additionally, some trains will run on Eid day itself. Tickets for the special trains will be available only at station counters and will not be sold online.

Furthermore, 43 intercity trains will operate this Eid. These trains have a combined total of approximately 33,315 seats. In addition, 25% of the tickets for each train will be sold as standing tickets at the station counters.

Advance tickets for the seven days leading up to Eid are being sold in phases. Tomorrow (May 25), tickets for June 4th will go on sale. Return journey tickets for after Eid will be sold starting May 30, beginning with advance tickets for June 9.
