Expatriate journalist Elias Hossain has stirred up social media in response to the recent speculation about the resignation of Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the interim government. In a Facebook post, he harshly criticized Dr. Yunus’s advisory panel and some recent appointments.

In his post, Elias Hossain wrote, “Dr. Yunus Sir, I heard you’re thinking about resigning. Sir, once you resign, I’m thinking of opening an ‘old home’ with your advisors.” He added, “You’re trying to build a revolutionary government with these old and worn-out people?”

Referring to one of the younger advisors, Nahid, Elias complained, “Among the advisors, the best one was Nahid, and even he was tactfully removed.” He also labeled the newly appointed IGP (Inspector General of Police) and DMP (Dhaka Metropolitan Police) Commissioner as “expired con artists.”

Expressing regret, Elias said, “Sorry Sir, not a single advisor from your NGO quota is competent.” He further added, “If it were up to me, I would’ve made Hasnat the Home Affairs Advisor. A new Bangladesh could have been built with the youth, but the revolution was lost because of these old folks.”

He believes that those who haven’t played any significant role in politics or social movements over the last 15 years are not capable of building a new Bangladesh. In his words, “Those old and cranky folks who haven’t even sneezed or coughed for the cause what do they know about revolution?” He concluded, “If Dr. Yunus wants to stay, then the students should drive out all the old men and start fresh. People still love Yunus.”
