Empowering Champions: Dr. Yunus Advocates for Bangladesh Women’s Football Team’s Future

Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus welcomed the victorious Bangladesh women’s football team who recently won the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship,
at the State Guest House, Jamuna, on Saturday, November 2. During the event, Dr. Yunus listened to the players’ concerns and assured them of his commitment to resolving their issues.

After the reception, team captain Sabina Khatun and manager Mahmuda Akter Ananya addressed the media from the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) headquarters. Sabina highlighted key issues the team presented to Dr. Yunus, focusing especially on challenges the players and their families face.

“Our family members often come to Dhaka to support us, but they don’t have a proper place to stay,” said Sabina. “We requested Dr. Yunus to consider providing accommodation for our families.”

The players also raised issues regarding infrastructure in their hometowns, mentioning poor road conditions, lack of reliable housing, and frequent electricity outages. They emphasized how these conditions impact their daily lives and requested Dr. Yunus to address these challenges.

Beyond personal concerns, the team discussed football-specific issues with the Chief Advisor. They pointed out the deteriorating conditions of the turfs near the BFF headquarters and at Kamalapur Stadium. Sabina noted that the poor quality of these fields forces them to travel early in the morning from Motijheel to Bashundhara for training sessions. She and her teammates asked Dr. Yunus to improve these facilities, which are vital to their training and performance.

Dr. Yunus listened attentively to each concern and encouraged the team to document their issues formally. Sabina explained, “He asked us to submit everything in writing and promised he would take action. We’ll send this letter through the Sports Advisor.”

The reception celebrated the team’s impressive performance at the recent South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship in Nepal, where Bangladesh claimed the title by defeating the host team 2-1. This victory marked the second consecutive championship win for Bangladesh, further establishing the team’s dominance in South Asian women’s football.

With Dr. Yunus’s assurances, the team hopes to see positive changes both in their living conditions and in the infrastructure supporting women’s football in Bangladesh.
