Bangladesh has been included as a ‘safe country’ for the repatriation of migrants in an initial draft list by the European Commission. The list will also be sent to European Union (EU) member states.
In this list not only Bangladesh but also Colombia, Egypt, India, Kosovo, Morocco and Tunisia is also as “Safe third countries of origin.” According to a document seen by Euractiv , they allow some specific members to return asylum seekers to these countries.
Agreement
This proposal is a part of the EU migration agreement adopted in 2023 which is agreement for the Asylum Procedures Regulation. Once again they expected to be implemented in 2026.

Framework
The EU’s safe third country legal framework is likely to coincide with an accelerated. A process which allows asylum seekers to be transferred to countries deemed, which can be able to provide protection and safety.

Reform and building under Discussion
In March, Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen proposed for building rules for the return of migrants. This topic is under Discussion in the Council and Parliament. Expecting that, the final list may published before June.
