A massive fire swept through Korail slum in Dhaka on Tuesday evening, destroying around 1,500 homes and leaving thousands homeless.
Residents reported that despite the sweeping blaze, the pages of the Qur’an in many homes remained untouched — a small solace amid the loss.
The Karail fire broke out at 5:22 pm and raged for several hours before firefighters finally brought it under control around 10:35 pm.

Even though the entire slum in Karail was burned, a mosque remained completely unharmed.
While thousands lost their houses and belongings in the devastating Karail fire, the holy Qur’an remained unburned.
Authorities are now assessing damage and planning relief efforts for the displaced families
