Fail the Drug Test, Lose the Seat: Chittagong University’s New Policy for Residential Halls

At Chittagong University, students selected for residential hall seats must pass a mandatory drug test conducted at Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Failing the test will result in the cancellation of their seat assignment. The university has scheduled the seat allocation for Thursday, October 3, with applications open online from Sunday, September 29, to Wednesday, October 2. Classes will resume on October 6. This drug test requirement was highlighted in the terms and conditions for seat allocation, announced on Saturday, September 28. It was revealed that the university made the decision to allocate hall seats during an emergency syndicate meeting held on Wednesday, September 25. Students are required to submit their applications online by 3:30 PM on October 2, and seat allocation results will be posted on October 3. To maintain their hall seats, students must be drug-free; otherwise, their allocation will be rescinded. The university’s Acting Registrar, K.M. Nur Ahmad, confirmed the details of the seat allocation process and class resumption, explaining that students will apply online from September 29 to October 2, with the allocation results released on October 3. Students can claim their seats on October 5, and classes will officially resume on October 6.
