Fakhrul: Country Will Return to Right Track

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the upcoming election in February will bring the country back on the right track and reflect the hopes and aspirations of the people.

He made the remarks on Monday morning while speaking to journalists after paying homage at the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) in Sylhet.

Earlier, Fakhrul arrived in Sylhet from Dhaka by air to attend his first political program in the city since the dramatic change in power on August 5.

After visiting the shrine, Fakhrul added,

“We have fought against fascism for 15 long years. Around 6 million of our leaders and activists have faced false cases. Thousands have been killed and over 1,700 people have been forcibly disappeared. Later, in July-August 2024, the fall of Hasina came through a popular uprising led by students and citizens.”

He paid his respects to those who were injured or killed over the past 15 years, particularly in the July-August uprising.

In response to a question, he said,

“The people of Bangladesh have struggled to reclaim their democratic rights. We are all hopeful that the upcoming election will restore the country to the right track.”

He was accompanied by BNP Chairperson’s advisor M.A. Malik, Ariful Haque Chowdhury, and Sylhet District BNP President Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury.
