A Shocking Incident in the Field
Snake bites are not rare in rural India. Every year, about 46,000 people die from snake bites in the country. But this recent case has drawn everyone’s attention — a farmer killed a snake by biting it back after being bitten first.
The incident occurred in Pushpatli village of Hardoi district, Uttar Pradesh.
Farmer Bit the Snake in Anger
According to police, 28-year-old farmer Punit was working in his paddy field on November 4 when a black cobra wrapped around his leg and bit him. Instead of panicking, he grabbed the snake and bit it back.
Punit said,
“আমি ক্ষেতে কাজ করছিলাম, তখন সাপটি আমার পায়ে জড়িয়ে ধরে কামড় দেয়। খুব ব্যথা হচ্ছিল, কিন্তু আমি সাহস হারাইনি। রাগে আমি সাপটাকে ধরে তার মাথায় কামড়ে দিই।”
Translation: “I was working in the field when the snake wrapped around my leg and bit me. It was very painful, but I didn’t lose courage. Out of anger, I caught the snake and bit its head.”
Snake Died, Farmer Survived
Villagers said the snake died on the spot. Though Punit did not lose consciousness, locals quickly took him to Hardoi Medical College for treatment.
Dr. Sher Singh said,
“He was admitted at night. We gave him anti-venom and kept him under observation. All his reports were normal, and later he was discharged.”
Doctors Warn Against Such Acts
Dr. Singh also cautioned that biting a snake can be extremely dangerous.
“Biting a snake is very risky. If even a small amount of venom had entered his mouth or gums, he wouldn’t have survived. Such actions should never be copied.”

Villagers Shocked
Punit’s cousin, Aman Kumar, said the entire village was shocked by what happened.
“প্রথমে আমরা ভেবেছিলাম, সে মজা করছে। কিন্তু পরে মাঠে গিয়ে দেখি সাপটা সত্যিই মারা পড়ে আছে। গ্রামজুড়ে এখন এই ঘটনা সবার মুখে মুখে।”
Translation: “At first, we thought he was joking. But when we went to the field, we saw the snake was really dead. Now, everyone in the village is talking about it.”
Farmer’s Realization
After recovering, Punit admitted that what he did was a mistake.
“I don’t know what I was thinking then. Maybe it was anger or fear. Now I realize it was a very foolish thing. I’m lucky to be alive.”
Doctors and locals have reminded everyone that snake bites should always be treated as a medical emergency — not an act of bravery. Punit’s survival was nothing short of a miracle.
