A tragic incident took place in Natore’s Singra upazila, where a father allegedly killed his son after being unable to tolerate his continuous abuse and misbehavior. The son, reportedly addicted to drugs and involved in various crimes, was found dead with severe injuries on 16 August in Mohishmari village in Natore. The father has been missing since the incident.
The Incident in Mohishmari Village
On Saturday evening (16 August), a shocking event unfolded at Mohishmari village in Chamari Union under Singra upazila in Natore. Locals reported that a father, unable to bear the abusive behavior of his drug-addicted son, attacked and killed him with a sharp weapon.
The victim was identified as Shafiqul Islam (30), also known as Shariful, son of Shahidul Islam alias Shahid Ali.

Long-Term Misbehavior and Complaints
Local Union Parishad (UP) member Saban Ali along with family sources said that Shafiqul was the eldest among three brothers. Their father, Shahid Ali, is a tree and timber trader.
Shafiqul had a history of misbehavior, which made his parents’ lives miserable. He was accused of:

Stealing from different houses,

Harassing women,

Stealing fish from ponds,

Threatening people with sharp knives during robberies,
-
Stealing fruits from trees.
Despite getting married three times, none of his wives stayed with him because of his bad character.
Family Struggles with His Behaviour
Relatives revealed that Shafiqul never listened to anyone’s advice. Even when scolded, he would attack or chase away his parents and brothers.
On Saturday afternoon, he returned home in an intoxicated state. When his family members confronted him about his misdeeds, he became violent and attacked them. To save themselves, the family members fled from the house.
His mother, frustrated and heartbroken, took her youngest son to her father’s house in the same area.
“ওই ছেলের মৃত্যুর খবর পেলেই আমি বাড়ি ফিরব, নইলে নয়।”
“I will only return home if I hear news of that son’s death, otherwise I will not.”
The middle son and Shahid Ali (the father) also left the house for safety.
The Attack on the son
Later in the evening, Shafiqul fell asleep in his room. At that point, his father reportedly returned home and attacked him repeatedly on the neck with a sharp weapon, leaving him severely injured.
That night, the youngest son secretly came back from his grandmother’s house and discovered his elder brother lying in a pool of blood. He quickly informed his mother.
When the mother reached the house around 10 pm, she broke down in tears, and the locals came to know about the incident.
Eyewitnesses said that multiple sharp weapon injuries were clearly visible on Shafiqul’s neck.
Police Investigation
Singra Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mominuzzaman confirmed the incident.
He said that the body was recovered and sent to Natore Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. A sharp machete (হাঁসুয়া) was also recovered from the crime scene.
OC:
“ঘটনার পর থেকেই নিহত যুবকের বাবা পলাতক রয়েছেন। এ বিষয়ে তদন্ত করে পরবর্তী ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হবে।”
“Since the incident, the victim’s father has been absconding. Further action will be taken after investigation.”
