Fire in Korail Slum Dhaka

High flammable Fire in Korail slum’s TNT Temple Gate in Dhaka on Friday night, February 21, 2025. The fire necessitated the use of 11 Fire Service and Civil Defence units to bring the fire under control. To date, reports have yet to identify why the fire was set or victims.

Korail slum, one of Dhaka’s large informal settlements, has experienced some fire incidents in recent years. A fire, which required seven fire engines to bring under control, occurred at the slum in December 2024. A massive fire displaced over 350 families and approximately 1,000 children, leaving them homeless, without food, and clean water in March 2024.

These recurrent fires highlight the vulnerabilities faced by residents of high-density settlements like Korail, where tightly built structures, the application of flammable materials for building, and limited access to emergency services enable easy fire spreading and impede firefighting efforts.
