A fire broke out early today (26 December) at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka, in Building No. 7. The fire damaged several floors, but after six hours of effort, firefighters were able to control the flames.
The first report of the fire came in at 1:52 am, and firefighting units arrived at the scene by 1:54 am. As the fire spread, 19 firefighting units were deployed. The fire was brought under control around 8:05 am.
During the operation, Md. Shoyanur Jaman Noyon, a 24-year-old firefighter, tragically lost his life. He was crossing the road to connect a water pipe to a pump when a truck struck him. Noyon was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. His body has been placed in the mortuary.
His namaz-e-janaza will be held at the Fire Service headquarters, near Bangabazar, after the Zuhr prayers.
